The ones that really talk

Loona Robot Pet Dog ($499.00 today). A small robot dog that drives around the house, recognizes faces and gestures, and chats using ChatGPT. Needs the app and Wi-Fi. The listing says the ChatGPT features are free "for now". Sold for ages 6 and up on this listing, though other Loona listings give different ages. It has a camera and microphones.

ropet KAMOMO ($269.10 today). A furry companion robot that reacts to touch and, per its listing, uses ChatGPT, keeps an "AI diary" and sketches. Needs the app. The listing says it is for kids and adults but does not give an age.

Casio Moflin ($429.00 today). A palm-size furry pet from Casio that reacts to touch, sound, light and movement, and develops its own "personality" over time. It does not talk. A free app shows its mood, with no subscription. Sold for ages 13 and up on Amazon. Casio describes it as AI; the listing itself says it has no real feelings.

Robot companions without AI chat

Energize Lab Eilik ($139.99 today). A desktop robot with an animated face that reacts to petting and plays mini games. The base model has no voice chat, no AI and no Wi-Fi, which is a plus if privacy matters. Listed for ages 3 and up. Do not confuse it with the smaller Eiliko.

Interactive pets for kids

None of these use AI. They run on batteries, need no app, and collect no data.

• Tamagotchi Paradise ($73.00 today): the classic virtual pet you raise and care for. Ages 6 and up. Several colors are sold, prices vary by color.
• Bitzee ($39.99 today): a digital pet in a small handheld case that reacts to touch. Ages 5 and up.
• Peekimo ($24.99 today): a tiny pet you wear as a charm, with 100+ reactions to touch and voice. Ages 5 and up.
• furReal Gabby the Grow and Roar Tiger ($79.00 today): a plush tiger that "grows" from cub to big cat with 100+ sounds and moves. Ages 4 and up. On the 2026 Toy Insider list.
• Little Live Pets My Magical Dragon Skye ($49.97 today): an interactive plush dragon. Its listing says ages 4 to 7.
• KPop Demon Hunters Furby Furblets Derpy Tiger ($14.97 today): a 3-inch collectible Furby with sounds, tied to the KPop Demon Hunters movie. No age stated on the listing.

Before you buy a talking AI pet

The pets that chat need an account, an app and Wi-Fi, and they listen through microphones. In 2025 and 2026, US consumer groups including Fairplay and US PIRG warned parents about AI toys, and senators wrote to the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the FTC asking for safety and privacy rules. Loona's maker was one of the companies those groups wrote to. Read the privacy policy before buying one for a child.
